AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) stands as a key component of Belton ISD’s Career Readiness Department, known as Belton Career Builders, supporting Career & Technical Education (CTE), MCJROTC, and Advanced Academics. AVID is a college and career readiness system designed to equip students with the skills, strategies, and mindset needed to succeed in advanced coursework and postsecondary opportunities. Simply put, AVID turns potential into achievement.

The vision of BISD Career Readiness is to foster a spirit of curiosity and career exploration, ignite aspirations, and empower each and every student to envision and shape their future. Within this framework, AVID creates a culture of academic success, helping students develop the habits and skills necessary to navigate rigorous coursework and prepare for life beyond high school.

BISD AVID initiatives:

  • Accelerate College & Career Readiness – AVID supports students in developing the academic habits, organization, and time management skills needed for success in rigorous coursework, including Advanced Academics, AP, and Dual Credit courses.
  • Empower Student Ownership – Through goal setting, inquiry-based learning, and leadership development, AVID students take an active role in shaping their future.
  • Develop Critical Thinking & Study Skills – Students engage in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) strategies that enhance comprehension and analytical reasoning.
  • Increase Access to Postsecondary Opportunities – AVID students receive structured support in college research, applications, scholarships, and financial aid.
  • Expand College & Career Exploration – Students participate in college visits, career experiences, and mentorship opportunities that connect their learning to real-world goals.
